Synopsis
Calliope June has Tourette Syndrome, this causes her to make some unusual faces and say some noises, sounds or words unintentionally. Ellie is constantly moving to new locations due to her mother's love life (up to number ten to be exact). This means that Ellie will be attending her tenth school, trying her hardest to hide her tourettes from others. However, the student body president, Jinsong (who lives next door) knows Calliope as her true self, beyond her tourettes. Is he brave enough to stand up for Calliope? Or ashamed that he knows Calliope whom everyone assumes to be a "freak."

My Review
Forget Me Not was an enjoyable and extremely fast read. It was one of the first times I have ever read a book in a whole day, I was hooked! The concept of Calliope's chapters written in free verse was beautiful. It was simple, yet the words were powering and helped to understand her thoughts with tourette syndrome and in a nutshell, helped to understand Calliope as a character. It was also accommodating to read Jinsong's point of view and to recognise the point of view most likely from people that do not understand and distinguish what Tourette syndrome is.

Written by Ellie Terry who has Tourette syndrome herself, this book uses her own experiences and knowledge to write this book, it just could not be written as well by anyone else and the fcat that Terry has used her own experiences makes the story even more pure and you know this story is written from the heart.

The storyline was easy to follow, yet I found quite sad that Calliope's mother was not able to fully accept the fact of Calliope's tourette syndrome, and this got me thinking that other people may be in the same situation and this book is a brilliant read to spread awareness about the syndrome and to help shed a light on the feelings and thoughts of those affected by the syndrome.

Star Rating
Overall, I rate Forget Me Not ⭐⭐⭐⭐AND A HALF

"Beautfiul read, sharing awareness about tourette syndrome is super important and this book is a great example of this. A simple, yet loving story." BOOK REVIEWS BY SOPHIE MCC
