In the village of Abe's Hat, cousins after cousins of the Galloway family had formed a secret hunting society to hunt down the devils and close the portals to Hell forever. To the current day, the Galloway family have still been hunting the devils in secret. In book 1, Lewis stumbles across the Galloway family unexpectedly, oh boy is he in for one long rollercoaster ride; hunting devils, avoiding death, is Lewis even a real cousin? Come along the Galloway adventure of hunting down the gruesome devils.

My Review
Initially, when I was asked to review this book, I was unsure whether to accept. I had never read a horror book before and the cover and synopsis of this book looked and sounded very interesting, however, I thought to myself to just give it a go and see if I enjoy this book and horror in general. Well, I am glad that I did decide to pick up this book and read it! The beginning hooked me in right from the start, it got straight into the action and did not drag along the boring parts of a book. When I first started reading, this book would not leave my hands (well my phone/laptop couldn't leave my hands as I read it as an eBook!) The book was gruesome and bloody, but that is what you would assume from a horror book.

The book was also a light read as well and not too overly detailed that it did not become too confusing to grasp; it was nice and easy to comprehend. I liked the way the action was described, that part of the book was detailed and I could imagine the scenes and characters in my mind.

However, moving on to a negative aspect: the sexual content of the book. The way that Lewis hooked up with a character instantly, barely even knowing who she is I found a bit weird. Reading the other sexual parts of the book made me a bit uncomfortable as well. Although, as this book is the first in a series, it would be interesting to read the rest of the books to see how the story travels.

Star Rating
Overall, I rate The Pineys: Book 1: My Cousin, the Piney ⭐⭐⭐
